Locals Only? Haskell's Beach Scope Hearing

The Haskell's Beach condo project that The Bacara had tried to ram through the General Plan last year with 13 amendments is finally beginning to hear input from the public (Noozhawk). A scoping hearing last Thursday brought this interesting comment from Michael Lunsford from the Gaviota Coast Conservancy on The Bacara's request for changes to the General Plan:

“The question is, ‘Would this kind of treatment be given to me or any other homeowner in the city of Goleta?’” he asked. “It’s been my experience that you don’t get past the planning desk until you’re consistent. And yet, in this case, we have a massive change.

“I’m afraid that what you’re doing is setting yourself up for a constitutional issue of equal treatment,” he said. “The rooms that are being anticipated are larger than my remodeled house. I suspect that is consistent with most people who live in Goleta.”

Interesting argument as there has been some question in the past as to the more typical beach public access approach (taken by others in the hearing I am sure). Now that the massive changes The Bacara proposed are public -- at least the plan can take public input. Members of the public who missed the scope hearing may submit written comments to Goleta City Hall until 5:30 p.m. April 16.

Canon PowerShot SX50 HS hands-on

Canon PowerShot SX50 HS handson

Sure the SX160 is a bit of a bulky superzoom, but it's got nothing on Canon's beefy PowerShot SX50 HS. As with the similarly named SX500 IS, the SX50's got a big, protruding lens and flash, though the added girth make it look a bit more like a DSLR. Part of its width can no doubt be chalked up to its 2.8-inch vari-angle LCD, which can be swiveled away from the body of the camera to help vary viewing angles. Also, like the SX50, the SX500 has a devoted button for Zoom Framing Assist, which does a quick zoom out to help you reframe subjects on the fly.

Above the display you'll find a play button and a cushioned viewfinder. To its right, you've got the Record, Display, Menu and access to settings like Macro and ISO. You'll find the rest to the settings -- plus ON / OFF and access to that big 50x zooming to the right of the flash. The PowerShot SX50 HS will run you $480 when it drops next month.

Chicago teachers strike ends, but political fallout is just beginning

The strike is over. Some 350,000 Chicago children can go back to school Wednesday. But its effects are likely to reverberate ? both nationally as well as in Chicago ? for some time.

Notably, the Chicago teachers strike was not mainly about money. Faced with the prospect that the city may close dozens of failing schools in coming years ? replacing many with nonunionized public charter schools ? teachers took to the streets over job security and new teacher evaluations that included student performance.

In the end, both the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) and the district gave in on some key areas, including compensation, teacher evaluation, length of the school day and year, and job security.

RECOMMENDED: Obama vs. Romney 101: 5 differences on education

Karen Lewis, the CTU president, emerged as the strong face of teacher resistance, and Democrat Rahm Emanuel, Chicago?s hard-charging mayor and the former chief of staff for President Obama, weathered a rough seven-day strike ? the first teachers? strike in Chicago in 25 years ? and came out on the other side, still holding relatively firm on the areas he had said were most important.

The strike also exposed a rift in the Democratic Party over education policy that has been there for some time, but which had never before been seen in such stark relief. In Chicago, an overwhelmingly Democratic and strong union town, Mr. Emanuel faced off against one of the country?s largest teachers unions, over reforms pushed by both Obama himself and his education secretary, Arne Duncan, who used to be the head of Chicago schools.

It was notable that Obama ? who risked alienating either union voters or turning his back on his own reforms ? never picked sides in the strike. By contrast, GOP rival Mitt Romney and his ticket mate, Rep. Paul Ryan (R) of Wisconsin, publicly backed Mayor Emanuel and tried to paint Obama as the union supporter.

But beyond Chicago, the strike energized both union activists and those who see unions as the enemy of reform. For many teachers, the images out of Chicago highlighted their own deep concerns over reforms seen as vilifying teachers or privatizing education.

?The big lesson of the strike is that teachers don?t like No Child Left Behind or Race to the Top,? says Diane Ravitch, an education historian at New York University, referring to two major federal reforms coming out of the Bush and Obama administrations.

?Teachers see [Race to the Top] as micromanagement that reduces their status as professionals,? Ms. Ravitch wrote in an e-mail. ?They were striking against high-stakes testing, against school closings, against privatization, against 17 years of failed top-down reforms.? (A pioneer of performance-based education reform, Ravich is now among the strongest critics of how these reforms were implemented nationally.)

The union called the negotiated deal ? which hasn?t been finalized and needs to be approved by the union?s 26,000 members in coming weeks ? a victory, contrasting the school board?s original position with the final agreement, and touting gains such as text books being available from Day 1 and $250 now reimbursable to each teacher for classroom supplies.

The contract wasn?t perfect, Ms. Lewis said. But she added: ?Do we stay on strike forever until every little thing we want can be gotten??

By all accounts, the union won some real concessions: Merit pay, which Emanuel had initially pushed for, was dropped. So-called ?step and lane? salary increases, rewarding seniority and advanced coursework, were preserved. The portion of a teacher?s evaluation that will be based on student achievement was reduced from 40 percent to 30 percent. And the union got ?recall rights? ? of a sort ? reinstated, with a promise from the district that it would seek to fill 50 percent of vacancies from a pool of laid-off tenured teachers who have strong performance evaluations.

Not insignificantly, at a time when the district is facing about a $1 billion budget deficit next year, teachers also won salary increases averaging about 16 percent over four years. (The contract would be for only three years, with an optional fourth year that the union can vote on.)

For his part, Emanuel called the contract ?an honest compromise? where ?we gave our children a seat at the table.?

The city, for its part, managed to hold firm on some of the big reforms that Emanuel had said were most important: lengthening one of the shortest school days and school years in the nation, implementing a meaningful evaluation system tied to student achievement, layoffs by performance rather than by seniority, and essentially preserving a principal's right to hire the teachers he or she wants.

But the national controversy still roils over the right (or wisdom) of big city unions to shut down a school system or to oppose more accountability for teachers.

Both sides say its movement was emboldened. Teachers? unions may start pushing back more against accountability reforms and high-stakes tests than they have in the past, using Chicago as an example. But the anti-union forces are also likely to get a boost, having seen a vivid example of how much power a big-city union can wield when it decides to shut things down.

?Both sides will inevitably find fuel in the result,? says Timothy Knowles, director of the University of Chicago?s Urban Education Institute. ?But I think if I was sitting in a city hall, being a mayor in a big city in America, I would say Rahm just did something pretty remarkable, which was to leverage public opinion, legislative action, and his own relentless nature to dramatically increase the amount of time kids are going to school.? The new school day and calendar add an hour and 15 minutes to the elementary school day, half an hour to the high school day, and 10 days more per year across the board.

Some advocates of accountability-based education reform, however, say Emanuel caved to union demands.

?It?s clear [Emanuel] go rolled,? says Mike Petrilli, executive vice president at the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, a think tank that promotes accountability reforms. ?His aspirations to be mayor for a long time, and to be a major player in the [education] reform movement ? that image has been tarnished quite a bit.?

Some reforms that the city did win on ? such as strengthened teacher evaluations ? were mostly due to new state mandates. ?It shows that state battles are still politically important,? he adds. ?They set the context for what can be bargained over at the local level.?

But the Chicago strike was also notable for criticism of the union from national voices on the left. While celebrating the union's stand, some union supporters worry that it was a poor strategic decision, allowing them to win a battle but setting them up to lose the war.

?I?m happy that there are good things in this contract. Do I think they could have had them without a strike? Yes,? says Zev Eigen, a law professor at Northwestern University who specializes in labor issues. ?So you have to weigh the cost.?

In the long term, Professor Eigen suggests, this strike may encourage people to legislate away union bargaining rights, as Wisconsin did, because the media, in covering the strike, didn?t distinguish between private- and public-sector unions.

?Public-sector unions are the very weakest case for collective-bargaining rights there is,? says Eigen, who worries that the public?s taste for dismantling union rights will extend beyond the public sector into the private sector.

Major voices from the left, including The New York Times editorial board and several high-profile columnists, wrote articles criticizing the union and supporting reforms.

?There?s been a shift going on in the Democratic Party since 2005,? says Rebecca Nieves-Huffman, Illinois state director for Democrats for Education Reform, a group that is critical of unions. ?Democrats are supposed to be supporting the little guy. In education, literally and figuratively, the little guys are the kids.... We?ve seen this shift where [some Democrats] are saying, 'I don?t know if taking the support of the union is in the best interest of kids.' ?

Chicago teachers, of course ? many of whom were angry about large class sizes, lack of air conditioning and textbooks, and inequities they see across the system, along with the proposed reform measures ? also believed they were holding students? best interests at heart. And ? at least until the second week the strike dragged on ? they were fairly successful in getting the support of Chicago parents.

?It appears the collective-bargaining process is still a very important and dynamic process for both addressing the reform issues around teacher accountability and the culture in the public schools, and at the same time protecting teachers? interests,? says Robert Bruno, a professor of labor and employment relations at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Moreover, says Professor Bruno, the union?s success in staring down the school system over some of the reform issues, and getting a relatively favorable contract in the end, suggests ?that teachers unions can actually fight and win.?

But many observers saw students as the big losers over the past week, sitting idly as big personalities flexed their muscle.

?I was of the view that this was a strike that didn?t need to happen,? says Knowles at the University of Chicago. ?Seven days out of school is real?. One could say this was an incredible opportunity to learn about civic engagement, but it was done on the backs of parents and kids, and that seems like a loss.?

Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800

Keyboards aren't exactly the sexiest peripherals in the market. For most folks, they serve a purely utilitarian purpose and are usually given as much thought as, say, a routine cleaning with the dentist. The Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 ($99.99 list) challenges this notion, and succeeds with ?lan. It's got all the hallmarks of a good keyboard, like an ergonomically sound design, quick response rate, and wireless connectivity. What sets the K800 apart from the rest, though, is its extra flair, such as sensors that trigger backlighting whenever your hands come in close proximity, or an innovative space-saving design that allows it to stand upright when it's not in use. Of course, all of this comes at an obvious premium: as far as non-gaming keyboards go, the K800's $100 price tag is relatively high. Taken as a whole, though, its price tag is justified by all of its nifty features. It's a superlative typing experience, the Cadillac of keyboards, and our Editors' Choice.

Design and Features
The K800's all-plastic chassis sports a sleek, doorstop-shaped design. While the thinnest point is roughly as thick as the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 , its profile tapers towards the rear. Thanks to this wedge shape, the K800 can be stood upright to save desk space whenever it's not in use. Although it initially looked somewhat odd in a vertical position, this unique design is a great space-saving feature, especially for those with limited real estate on their desks.

A thin, clear strip runs along the outer edge of the K800 and abuts the matte-finished outer perimeter, which houses the wrist wrest. A glossy black plastic finish surrounds the portion immediately outside the keys. Much like the glossy material found on both the Logitech Wireless Keyboard K360 and the K750, this portion of the K800 is particularly susceptible to smudging, though it hardly constitutes a major design flaw since it occupies a small portion of the K800's face. The keyboard's sculpted keys are in the traditional style and a welcome departure from the Apple-inspired tiled style that's currently en vogue. The K800 packs a solid selection of hotkeys to execute functions, like opening a dedicated mail client, controlling media playback, toggling between programs, and adjusting the keyboard's brightness.

The matte-finished keys feature laser-etched characters, and the backlight shines through them with no noticeable seepage around the edges. The backlight itself is the main attraction of the K800 along with what Logitech dubs "hand proximity detection." Built-in sensors detect your hands as they approach the keyboard and, in turn, toggle the backlight on and off; the keyboard lights up when your hands are roughly four inches away, causing it to brighten up as you reach for it. Once your hands leave the sensory zone, the keyboard slowly fades to black in a very cinematic fashion. On a practical level, this feature preserves battery life. On a more visceral level, it's a pretty cool feature that I never tired of.

Installation merely requires plugging the included receiver into a USB port and waiting for a minute or two as the driver installs itself. Like the K360, the K800 utilizes Logitech's proprietary "Unifying" technology, so up to six Logitech devices can be wirelessly connected to your system through a single USB port. For users with limited USB ports on hand, this is a nifty feature that helps free up port real estate, albeit not quite as effectively as Bluetooth does. Users looking to avoid dongles and receivers altogether would be better served with the Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000 .

Performance
Typing on the K800's sculpted keys is an overall comfortable experience. In addition to having no lag time, its tapered profile sidesteps the shallow sensation typically felt on slimmer keyboards like the Evoluent Essentials Full Featured Compact Keyboard (EKB) and, to a lesser extent, the K750. The keystrokes strike the right balance between rigidity and softness, as reflected by the relatively low level of audible noise emitted during use. Compared with other keyboards, the K800 is significantly less clacky, an attribute that has prompted me to recommend it to some of the more furious typists in PC Labs.

For users who would rather not bother with battery levels, the solar-powered K750 remains the standard-bearer. That said, the K800's rechargeable battery lasts for quite a while on a full charge; I left it on in the Labs during a three-day weekend, and returned to see its battery still fully charged. An LED battery life indicator on the keyboard conveniently shows the remaining battery life. Either way, the fact that the K800 can be used while charging through the included Micro-USB cable means that battery life will rarely be a major issue. Plus, the K800's rechargeable battery is an improvement over those that run off of non-rechargeable batteries, like the Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000.

With a price tag that falls a shade under $100, the Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 is certainly one of the more expensive non-gaming keyboards you'll encounter. At the same time, though, this hefty premium is justified by its abundance of features, like its vertically-oriented space-saving design and use of hand proximity detection. Moreover, while it lacks the arched shape of the Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000, the K800 nonetheless sports an ergonomically sound design, and utilizes rechargeable batteries to boot. For these reasons, it's a shoe-in as our Editors' Choice for keyboards.

I no longer sit down and have to haunch over my out of shape-ness. The neck and back pain I used to feel are either gone or bother me so much less due to strength training and stretching. This is the feeling I was looknig for. Thank you so much Macie, Jesse, Candace, Breck, and all the other trainers, I cannot remember their names at this moment. Thank you for all your hard work.

give and get referrals - Networking Ahead for Business

Last week I lead a half-day workshop to the motivated accounting professionals of?BlumShapiro,?the largest regional accounting, tax and business consulting firm?based in New England with offices in West Hartford and Shelton, Connecticut and Boston and Rockland, Massachusetts. The title of the seminar was ?Success by Association: how to grow your business through networking groups and professional?affiliations.?

We examined the many professional benefits of being actively involved in networking groups, including industry associations, professional associations, college/alumni groups, diversity/affinity groups, chambers of commerce, BNI/Leads groups, volunteer service clubs and social clubs.

We agreed that there was a strong correlation between the level of your involvement and participation and the benefits that you receive. Just being a dues-paying member will not necessarily produce any business networking benefits for you or your organization.

I dream of (the referral) genie

One of the enticing benefits of belong to networking groups is the opportunity to receive referrals, leads and recommendations. Let?s face it, building business is a lot easier when you have other people recommend you to people and companies who are looking for and needing exactly what you offer. Here?s a fun quote from Jeffery Gitomer, author of The Sales Bible. (Hint: for the full effect, read this quote out loud and add a bit of attitude to it)

?And referrals ? ooh, how we dream of having someone put in a good word for us with a person who works at a big company. With a referral, it?s so much easier to set up meetings with corporate decision makers. The very best referrals come from coworkers or peers inside the company. After that, trustworthy industry colleagues are great door openers. Without a referral, everything in sales is just that much harder.????Jeffery Gitomer, author of?The Sales Bible

What?s your referral history?

When it comes to referrals, there are two principles that I teach: 1) you have to give before you can get referrals; 2) you have to learn to ask for referrals.

Let?s start by reviewing your most recent referral history. See if you can fill in this table with names of people who you have referred and who have referred you.

My Referral History

If you are struggling with this task, chances are you have not yet figured out how to leverage referrals to create opportunities for yourself and others. Below is one of my favorite quotes about referrals. It comes from Bob Burg, one of the leading experts in the field of business referrals:

?All things being equal, people will do business with and refer business to those people they know, like and trust. That?s the ?golden rule? of business networking.? -?Bob Burg,?author and creator of Endless Referral Systems?.

Know, like and trust ? these are the three conditions that must be met in order to participate in the giving and receiving of referrals. Can you think of people who know, like and trust you? ?How about people that you know, like and trust? Of course you can! Now you are ready to prime the pump of referrals. It?s time for you to become more proactive in the process of giving and receiving referrals. It?s easier than you think.

Easy ways to refer others that you know, like and trust

  1. If you like a professional service or product, don?t keep it to yourself. Recommend it to others;
  2. If you can?t take a job or new project (for whatever reason), recommend someone else whom you think is qualified and can do a good job;
  3. If you believe in the quality of someone?s work or character, write them a LinkedIn recommendation;
  4. If you are thrilled with someone?s work you can provide them with a testimonial for their work (written, video or audio);
  5. If you can vouch for the quality of a former employee or colleague (and you would actually hire them yourself if you were in the position), offer to serve as a job reference.
  6. If you like a book, write a positive review and post it on Amazon.com;
  7. Other ways you can refer others that you know, like and trust? _______________________________________

Note: if you have a paid referral arrangement with anyone, be sure to reveal that condition to anyone that you give referrals to.

Confident ways to ask for referrals from others that know, like and trust you

Most people are uncomfortable asking for referrals. It can feel?awkward?finding the right time and the right words to suggest that there might be someone in their network that would benefit from your product/service. Some industries like real estate and insurance sales, have figured out how to ask for referrals quite directly and feel no shame or?embarrassment?about doing so. Good for them. They know that referrals are the lifeblood of their new business development pipeline.

Timing counts. Don?t wait until the end of an engagement before you think about asking for a referral. The best time to ask your clients for a referral is earlier on in the project when your client is fully engaged and ?loving you.?

Help them to help you.?It would wonderful if more people had the business networking mindset and would engage in referrals on a more regular basis. Unfortunately, most people are not build that way. You have to help them connect the dots for you by learning to directly ask for referrals, introductions and recommendations

Try saying these referral asks out loud. You can change the words to put them into your own?phraseology. Get with a friend and role play asking for a referral. You can do it over the telephone, in person or online. Of course, a face to face ask is always the most fruitful.

  1. ?Can you think of any other companies in your network that could also benefit form a project like the one we are doing for you? I?d greatly appreciate any referrals that you can provide.?
  2. ?If you like the work we are doing for you, please feel free to recommend our services to other people in your network. May I give you a few of my business cards to share with others??
  3. Would you be willing to give me a testimonial or letter of reference for the work that I have done for you??
  4. Can I include your company name/logo on my web site as a company that we have done business for?
  5. I am looking to acquire more business in this industry sector and would appreciate any ?introductions or referrals that you could provide to me.?
  6. How comfortable would you be to referring me and my services to your clients?
  7. Can you think of any of your clients that you think would be a good fit for me and my company? Would you be open to making the introduction?
  8. If you come across anyone in your network who is needing help with __________, please feel free to refer me/my company.
  9. You have an amazing network of connections and I would be grateful if you would consider introducing me or referring to me to people that I can help.?
  10. No advertising in the world is as powerful as a referral from a happy client. If you are happy with my services, feel free to refer us to your family and friends.
  11. Please know that I will I make it my top priority to take care of any clients that you refer my way.
  12. We are accepting new clients and would appreciate any referrals that you think would make a great match for our services.
  13. Is there anyone in your network that would make a good connection (or lead or referral) for me and my firm?

Your Networking Goal for the Week

This week, I want to you increase the number of times that you give referrals and ask for referrals. Use the table entitled My Referral History to track your referral activity.

If you have been thinking about asking a current client for a referral, but haven?t had the courage yet to ask, I want you to go for it this week.

If you have received a great referral in the recent past and have not yet properly acknowledged and thanked the referral source, I want to you to take the time to write a thank you note. In addition, think about who you might be able to refer them to.

If you are excited about the idea of leveraging referrals to build your business, consider forming a referral partner team. Read the blog I wrote in January 30, 2012 entitled Networking how-to: build a referral partner team.

May the referral genie be with you.

Changing a lightbulb in your own place is one thing. Try doing it 1,500 feet in the sky while standing on the roof of the tallest building in North America with only your own balance and wits keeping you on solid ground.

April 16.

It Didn't Take Long -- Strickland Fail on Renewable Energy

Marie Lakin at the Ventura County Star pointed out that it didn't take long for State Senator Tony Strickland to not be so green after all. The erstwhile "renewable energy businessman" failed to vote on renewable energy legislation last Tuesday. I guess it wasn't that important unless he's running for office. Worse yet, as Lakin points out, it wasn't so important for his "green" business.

Panasonic RP-HC200

To contact us Click HERE

I'm often asked: "What's the best cheap pair of noise-canceling headphones?" And people tend to not like the answer: There isn't one. Sure, there are plenty of inexpensive models, but effective noise-cancellation circuitry is not cheap to make. Thus, if the pair is under, say, $150, you're likely getting low-quality noise cancellation, poor audio performance, or both. The Panasonic RP-HC200 ($79.99 list)??falls well below that minimum price barrier, and unsurprisingly adheres to this trend?but that's not necessarily a knock. For $80, the headphones actually sound quite good, with an articulate, lively bass response. They can be used in passive mode, which saves battery life, and hey, the noise cancellation is not super-effective, but it'll cut out some hiss, so let's consider it an added bonus on an otherwise solid-sounding pair of well-priced headphones.

Design
Decidedly retro-looking with rounded, rectangular cups, the RP-HC200 is offered in several different color schemes?ours was a 70's-esque pale green and dark gray. The circumaural (around-the-ear) design of the headphones only barely encloses your entire ear, but the padding on the cups and underside of the headband are quite comfortable.

Unfortunately, the RP-HC200 uses a single AAA battery rather than a rechargeable cell. The compartment for the battery, along with the Noise Cancellation On/Off switch, is located on the left earcup. Panasonic claims a battery life of roughly 60 hours, but this will also depend on your choice of battery. The RP-HC200 does ship with one AAA battery, as well as an airplane jack adapter and a drawstring protective bag. Panasonic RP-HC200

Performance
The noise-reduction capabilities of the RP-HC200 are rather modest. With no music playing, you can switch the noise cancellation on in an environment with significant ambient noise, and it noticeably cuts out a bit of the whir of an AC unit or drone of a train. It is not in the same league as more effective noise cancellation pairs, however, like the AKG K 490 NC . The RP-HC200 is effective to a certain degree, but it's not going to make you thank your lucky stars you didn't spend more money on the Bose QuietComfort 15 ?every time you switch it on. Let's set this fact aside for a moment, however, and examine the RP-HC200 as a standard pair of headphones.

Anytime an $80 pair of headphones offers a quality audio experience, I am pleasantly surprised. In this price range, you tend to get distortion at high volumes, especially when deep bass is involved, but the RP-HC200 delivers nearly pristine audio at maximum volume. Part of the reason for this is that they don't get quite as loud as most other headphones do, regardless of whether they're in passive or active modes. The fact that you can even you use them in passive mode is a bonus?some Bose models don't offer you this convenience. The difference in audio performance between the two modes is barely noticeable.?At $80, if noise cancellation is part of the equation, something's got to give?there's just not sufficient budget for both quality noise cancellation and quality audio in this price range.

So, Panasonic seems to have focused on the audio performance, which is worth the price alone. Deep bass tracks like the Knife's "Silent Shout" are delivered with rich, articulate low-end and crisp highs. No one will mistake the RP-HC200 for a high fidelity masterpiece, but listeners who enjoy robust bass response will not be disappointed. It's not on par with a pair of Monster Beats by Dr. Dre , but that pair takes bass response to an extreme that not everyone will enjoy. The RP-HC200's budget approach is to provide a solid bass floor for the rest of the mix to sit upon without getting things too muddy.

On rock, hip hop, and electronic music, it strikes a nice balance between the low-end and higher frequency content like vocals and percussion. On instrumental tracks, like John Adams' classical piece, "The Chairman Dances," the bass presence is much more subtle, but still lends a nice bit of deeper resonance to the lower register strings.

If there is one complaint to be made, perhaps the highs are a bit too bright at times?things never sound tinny thanks to the quality reproduction of the lows and mids, but some times horns or higher stringed instruments can sound a tad harsh. This, however, is fairly typical in this price range.

So, regardless of how they're marketed, what we have in the Panasonic RP-HC200 is a solid pair of headphones for the price. That they happen to have noise cancellation can be considered a bonus, but if noise cancellation is a priority, the aforementioned AKG K 490 NC and Bose QuietComfort 15 are your best bets. Able Planet's Clear Harmony NC1050 is also a great pair, but all of these are far more expensive than the RP-HC200. If you can spend a little more than $80, Phiaton PS 20 NC??offers an upgrade in noise cancellation, but it's in-canal pair of earphones may not suit everyone. For the price, the RP-HC200 offers well-above average sonic performance and passable noise cancellation. If $80 is your budget, you can buy this pair knowing that it's a standout in its lower-priced class, just don't expect fireworks.

How to Apply An SEO Strategy Throughout Your Entire Web Presence

To contact us Click HERE

Search Engine Optimization, (SEO) is not just for the home page of a business website. SEO best practices extend to Pay-Per-Click advertising (PPC), content marketing, and social media marketing too.

To increase their visibility, gain new customers and grow their bottom lines, business owners should strive to use relevant keywords throughout their entire web presence. Below we?ll review some of the leading online marketing tactics and provide examples of how to use keywords and SEO strategies for each.

PPC Advertising

Your PPC ad campaigns should focus on the same keywords as your website and ecommerce pages. This way your business can build up authority and rise higher in the search results, due to incoming links from PPC ads around relevant terms and phrases to your site.Take advantage of Google?s free keyword grader tool to figure out which terms and phrases you can compete for in your industry and geographic area. For smaller businesses, longtail keywords may be a good option. For example, instead of competing with big company like Zappos.com for basic keywords like running shoes, a Tucson shoe store might test ad campaigns around more unique long-tail phrases like ?Tucson trail running shoes.?

Blogging

Google and other web browsers treat each new blog post like a new page of your website. Blogging is a popular internet marketing strategy because it allows a small business to keep adding fresh, keyword optimized content to its website. To improve your business search engine rankings and perceived authority, optimize blog posts with 3 to 5 percent of the total word count being keywords and phrases. Use keywords in metadata such as titles, headings and alt image descriptions to let web crawlers know what?s on the page. When linking internally or externally, use varied keyword anchor text to build more SEO authority.

Social Media

Most links on social networks that point back to a business website are ?no-follow,? which means they are not counted when search engines determine the website?s overall authority. However, it remains beneficial for companies to use keywords in social updates to increase brand awareness and get found by users searching on social networks. On a company Twitter profile, be sure the bio features a few main business keywords. You can even add relevant hash tags at the end of your bio to show which topics or phrases are most important to your business. On Facebook, inject keywords when appropriate in your basic information at the top of the page. On both networks, be sure that status updates and tweets reference keywords and even brand names relevant to your business.
